CMM is a process improvement approach that provides to KOM7 with the essential elements of effective processes that ultimately improve their overall performance. CMM can be used to instill process improvement across a project, a division or entire departments in KOM7. It helps integrate conventionally separate KOM7’s functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes and provide a point of reference for appraising current processes.

CMM maturity level 3 ensures KOM7 has a defined set of standard processes and institutionalization across its processes. Every level of CMM has some process areas that need to be institutionalized in order to achieve that particular maturity level. To acquire any maturity level, process areas falling under that level as well as the process areas that fall under the level below need to be fulfilled. There are 18 process areas, which is fulfilled by KOM7 in order to obtain CMM level 3. All of these fall under different categories, such as:


Process management processes

Process management processes contain cross-project activities related to defining, planning, deploying, implementing, monitoring, controlling, appraising, measuring and improving processes. Processes that come under this category are KOM7’s process focus, KOM7’s process definition, KOM7’s training, KOM7’s process performance, KOM7’s innovation and deployment.

Project management processes

The processes under this category cover project management activities related to planning, monitoring and controlling of projects. Processes supporting this category are project planning, project monitoring and control, supplier agreement management, integrated project management, risk management and quantitative project management.

Engineering processes

Engineering processes span development and maintenance activities that are shared across engineering disciplines. The processes that come under this category comprise requirements development, requirements management, technical solution, product integration, verification and validation.

Support processes

These processes act as support in development and maintenance. Processes belonging to this category are configuration management, process and product quality assurance, measurement and analysis, decision analysis and resolution and causal analysis and resolution.
